With a million versions of yogurt at the grocery store, you might think that all there is to yogurt is picking out a tube, cup, or vat of it in the dairy aisle. Oh, but there is so much more to yogurt. Let its fun side out with these four great ways to make it fun.
DIY Your Own Yogurt Flavor
Think Dannon or Stonyfield have cornered the market on flavored yogurt? Think again. Blueberry peach, Vanilla marmalade, and Strawberry ‘colada are all within your reach. Just mix a teaspoon (or tablespoon) of your favorite jams, honey, and dessert sauces into plain yogurt. Note that the sugar in the jams and sauces will sweeten up the plain yogurt and will give it a rich, complex flavor without the overpowering taste of SUGAR (Man, does that guy like to stand out at a party!). Yum and done.
Make Your Own Fro Yo
Uh oh. You’re out of ice cream and you want something cold and delish without having to go anywhere? Well then, you are in the right place. Place containers of your favorite flavored yogurt into the freezer and wait an hour of two for them to get nice and icy (more if you’re going for a thicker ice-cream-like consistency). Then take ’em out and enjoy. An added bonus – you can make your kids think they are eating ice cream when really they are actually eating yogurt.
Make Your Own Yogurt Bark
Another freezer friendly recipe here: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Pour on some flavored yogurt (either store bought or DIY) and sprinkle on top any and all toppings you might enjoy – nuts, granola, and dried fruits are a great choice, but feel free to turn it into a real dessert treat by adding chocolate chips and shredded coconut. Place in the freezer and wait until your concoction hardens. Then, break it into pieces and enjoy. Note: This is a very cold dessert – perfect for a warm day.
Create the Perfect Parfait
There’s something about layering yogurt, fresh fruit, and granola in a glass that just makes it seem so fancy. And sometimes, it’s nice to feel fancy – even if you’re sporting PJs.
